A Journey and a Mission:
East coast natives, Cregg and Karen Sweeney returned to their roots after fourteen years in Northern California's San Francisco Bay Area. What began as a temporary adventure - to remodel Cregg's parents' 1920s Cape cottage - evolved into a way of life. Cregg and Karen quickly appreciated the advantages of raising their family in a small community on this beautiful Cape, and began to pursue their shared dream of creating a business together: building relationships and homes to sustain and inspire us for generations to come.
Cregg Sweeney, LLC is known locally for our exceptional craftsmanship, teamwork and customer service, building upon years of success and experience across two coasts.
Cregg Sweeney, CR
Fate intervened, when a summer construction job in college kindled a flame for Cregg Sweeney that would grow into a passion and set him on his path. While finishing his degree in business management and marketing from Cornell University, Cregg avidly pursued his early training in the trades. In 1991, he headed west and began his fourteen-year tenure with Alward Construction Company, Inc., in Berkeley, California. Under the tutelage of owner Keith Alward, Cregg honed his skills, earning the title of Master Builder, while the company itself garnered a national reputation as one of the finest building and remodeling companies in the region.
Building in the Bay Area provided Cregg with a opportunity to work alongside truly exceptional craftsmen, architects and designers in a demanding and diverse market. With Alward Construction, Cregg served in every capacity, learning all aspects of the business, from trade details and the finer points of building successful client relationships to the intricacies of large-scale project and team management.
A unique opportunity stands out as a defining moment in Cregg's career - rebuilding a great masterpiece, Frank Lloyd Wright's Buehler House in Orinda, California, which had been all but destroyed by fire. Conforming to an exacting level of detail - the slot of every screw level with the floor line - Cregg developed his overarching passion for approaching his craft as art. Cregg led this project alongside Walter Olds, who had been Wrights' original supervising architect for the project in 1948, and with whom Cregg had cultivated an informal apprenticeship. The Buehler House would be the first of two projects awarded prestigious Contractor of the Year and Best Entire House Remodel by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
